Introduction to God Hates Video Games

Who are you?

I am the creator and writer for God Hates Video Games (GodHatesVideoGames.com.) I am a minister and a father of three boys which grew up playing video games. I live in a small town, but it’s not so small as to be sleepy and impervious to worldly evils. We have a lot of problems with drugs. There aren’t murders, rapes, or stabbings, but theft and vandalism are everyday occurrences. At the elementary school that all of my children attended, a sixth grader was found in possession of cocaine. I am still a young man in many ways, but this made me lurch forward and indignantly shout, “Not in my town!” But it’s true – moral decay has crept like a slow-growing cancer from the cities into every honest factory town in the country; at least all that I’ve seen. I’ve struggled in many ways through my life, as I believe every man does. I am stronger now, for it. My one goal in mortal life is to help others with their struggles.

Are you part of the Westboro Baptist Church?

No

Do you support the Westboro Baptist Church?

Do I believe that the Westboro Baptists are following the true path of God? Absolutely not. Do I agree with them? While no two men can be in complete agreement on all things, I feel that the WBC and I differ in more ways that we are alike. Homosexuals are undoubtedly a threat to our culture, but when I saw their GodHatesAmerica website, I couldn’t believe it. America has been built around Christian ideologies since our founding fathers! God should have no more disdain for us than he has his own Bible. And teaching God’s way isn’t about shouting and anger; it’s about compassion and tenderness. I don’t believe in End Times or hope for the apocalyptic suffering of mankind, either. So why did I copy their slogan for my own website? It’s simple. I preach. I spread the Word. If I cannot spread my word efficiently, then I’m not worth my weight in salt. The more important the message, the farther I must carry if for our Lord. To my knowledge, nothing spreads farther than the Internet, so here I am. As I’ve said, I’m still a young man, and I like to think that I will never lose connection with my fellow peoples. I want readers to come to this site angry and assuming, because the anger and assumptions these people feel are only towards themselves. I want to help people in any way that I can, but they must first glance in my direction before they can change their perspective.

Do you really think God hates video games?

Do I think God hates video games? This is the kind of question that cannot be truthfully answered by man. I don’t believe God has the capacity for hate, but we cannot comprehend God’s feelings at such a mortal level. God is an infinitely complex being, and we cannot know His emotions any more than we can know His motives or His very will. God loves us for certain, but love as we know it is only a page in the book of God’s profound care for his creations. God feels about video games in the way anyone feels about something that threatens a loved one. God does not hate video games in the selfish sense; He hates them in the sense that He wants us to overcome them. What we refer to as hate is really just transferred into a sense of cheering us on. In math, subtraction is action of adding the negative. God does not want to add negativity to video games; He wants to subtract from our lives the pain they bring upon us.

Why video games?

Do I believe that video games are inherently evil? Despite what you may garner from my website’s title, the answer is no. Of course video games are not evil. A video game is not evil just because it is a piece of electronic entertainment. This would be akin to saying that books are evil just because they are made of paper. It’s when you see bookstores lined with tomes containing – not God’s word – but racy and sexed-out youths who are supposed to be our protagonists, it’s when we see heroes who are not struggling against temptation, but indulging in witchcraft and mocking holy wrights, it’s when we see scientists, who are not writing to explain the world’s physical properties, but to corrupt children with ideas of disobedience and disrespect that we must question what’s going on with the world. It’s not the books’ faults; it’s the faults of corrupt and wicked men who use them as tools of our destruction. All media/ entertainment is just a tool that allows an entire society to communicate to an individual. And, like all tools, it can be used as a weapon of Satan and heathenish men who despise God and reject His love. Sometimes, to defeat an enemy, we must not overpower his weapon with our own, but disarm him altogether. I simply believe that video games are currently the largest gun wielded by our opposition. It’s pointed right at the heads of our youth, but instead of gunpowder, it’s filled with venomous ideas and heartbreaking images. So why is it God Hates Video Games and not God Hates Movies or God Hates Music? Well, that’s what this website answers. Why don’t you read and find out?
