Duke Nukem Forever Many ask why chastity is so important. Let’s stop and consider for a moment the relationship our bodies and souls have. Are our bodies really alive if, when our soul leaves, they stop functioning? Think of our bodies as a glove. When a glove is not worn, it lays lifelessly and dead. It cannot move or perform actions until it’s inhabited by a hand, its spirit. The glove cannot see the hand, not can anything else which looks at the glove, but it’s apparent when there is something of great importance moving the glove about. In return for acting as its motor, the glove helps the hand by protecting it from all sorts of harm. That’s the very reason the hand enters the glove in the first place. Our bodies serve the same purpose to our spirits. What happens, then, when a hole forms in the glove? It gives an opening for outside forces to harm the hand. The hand may get frostbite or form blisters. When we break a covenant with God and forsake our sexual chastity, we are letting a hole form in our own body, through which evil can pour in and harm our spirits. Is it appropriate then, that our children play as an immature macho man who only wants to have sex and consume pornography? The vulgar character, Duke Nukem, star of Duke Nukem Forever ,seems to be the fantasy of a spoiled third-grader. He drinks beer, pumps steroids, plays video games, and those who play this game want to grow up to be just like him. The language heard is very crude. Every swear word that’s bleeped out on television is shouted with gusto in this game, including various terms for penis, vagina, and disgusting acts such as sodomy. In the clip below, which should not be watched by children, Duke is implied to have engaged in oral sex with two women, and he also demonstrates some of his lectured vocabulary. Romans 13:13 Let us behave decently, as in the daytime, not in orgies and drunkenness, not in sexual immorality and debauchery, not in dissension and jealousy. This is not all. Women’s bare breasts are shown. Women are shown engaged in homosexual positions. Players can pick up and view pornographic magazines and websites. Players can gamble. Players can urinate on things. Players can pick up and throw pieces of human feces. The toilet humor is so prevalent that the only possible target audience is elementary school students. This is fine in itself: children often are amused by bodily functions and they are nothing to be ashamed about, but then why must the game force a polygamous and unholy view of sex along with it? This is like marketing a coloring book themed around the holocaust. Marriage and sex are two of the most sacred things on God’s earth. Sexual reproduction is God’s gift to us. It allows us a small sliver of God’s power: the power to create life. When we mock this power and use it in ways unattended, we disrespect God’s greatest generosity. On simpler terms, this would be as if someone used a famous painting as a door mat or an exquisite sculpture to hang hats, only instead of social ostracization, it’s God’s offense we are risking. So we seem to have here a game of great moral indecency. There’s violence, sex, and drugs, and none of them are shunned, but celebrated and rewarded. Duke is never shown with liver problems as result of consuming alcohol, which instead gives players super strength. Nor is Duke shown contracting a sexually transmitted disease after fornicating with strange women, which instead gives the player more health. Everything is a mockery of what has serious implications in our everyday life. I must reiterate that death and temptations like alcohol and drugs don’t necessarily need censored from games and movies. What needs to happen is content creators taking a responsible approach to these subjects. In mature works, characters that die do so tragically, and characters that drink and fornicate do so at the cost of their health. This is exactly the difference between video games and books or movies that are more sensible. There are many films whose protagonists suffer from alcoholism. However, these characters are realistic in that they lose their families, their jobs, and generally things that are very important to them. Duke Nukem drinks, but loses nothing. He’s portrayed as savior who rescues mankind. The irony is bitter and savage, for Duke has no compassion for anything. Genesis 1:24 And God said, “Let the land produce living creatures according to their kinds: the livestock, the creatures that move along the ground, and the wild animals, each according to its kind.” When I say that God Hates Video Games, is it Duke’s strip club He finds dispicable? When God created man, did He envision us using computer equipment to simulate adultery? Does the Bible permit incest between two sisters and a man? Duke Nukem Forever is another game the belongs nowhere in the home of any Christian. It is vile and disgraceful. It’s women are only sexual objects, and their only attribute: lust. The game is a landscape that appeals to every aspect of a sinner. To show children this landscape and to describe it as a fun adventure puts them on a dead-end path that leads right into Satan’s open arms.
