Fear 3 Fear is the number one enabler of sin among man. It is his greatest vice. It is his greatest foe, his weakness, his tormentor. It is a product of our original sin, and as such, every man, woman, and child is inflicted with fear in the worst of times. What drives men to suicide? They are afraid to face their lives. What drives women to abortion? They are afraid to raise their child. What causes atheists to hate God? They are afraid of living morally. Sinners steal because they’re afraid they will not have enough for themselves. They gamble because they’re afraid of work. They drink because they’re afraid of consciousness. They murder because they’re afraid of themselves. It is fear, like a devil on the shoulder of every living human, which plants seeds of discontent in all our minds. Some people think fear protects them. A fear of heights keeps us from climbing dangerous slopes. A fear of drowning keeps us from wading too far into the ocean. A fear of people keeps stops dangerous strangers from entering our lives. But the truth is that fear is an anchor. Fear must be overcome so that we can grow. We must confront high places so that we do not panic when in a precarious position. We must learn to swim so that we do not sink should we wind up in deep waters. We must get to know new people so we can grow as humans and experience the power of love and friendship. The power that fear has over us is that it makes us turn away. We turn away and look to whatever else there may be, even if it’s not the morally sound choice. Satan knows this and lays in wait, planting alternatives that appeal to our fears, but not to God. Imagine the following scenario. As an older teen, you notice a young girl in church one Sunday. She’s cute and she’s smart and she’s decidedly living through Christ. However, because you’re afraid to meet new people, you never ask her on a date. This is just the kind of opening Satan waits to pounce upon. You never ask her out, so your chances of marrying her in the sanctity of the church and starting a family are nullified. Instead, you just so happen to receive a call from an old acquaintance, who, though she’s not a devout follower, you feel comfortable enough around to ask on a date. What you don’t realize, and which will become apparent, is that she’s actually an atheist. By the time it’s out of the closet, she’s corrupted you morally and spread her hate of God like a rash. The two of you are now doomed to damnation. This is just one example of the endless ways fear can cause someone to turn from a righteous path to one that is dark. Fear 3 provides a similar amoral path, supplementing hate and mockery of God with the violence and gore found in other games. Proverbs 29:25 The fear of man bringeth a snare: but whoso putteth his trust in the LORD shall be safe. This trailer for the game illustrates like a bulletin list everything terrible in all games: torture, nudity, violence towards children, monsters, dismemberment, and stabbing, shooting & burning of enemies. However, there is one thing that stands out as inherently evil which I haven’t seen in other games yet. The player is shown to have what is described as “telekinetic” powers. “Telekinetic” is the supposed ability to control things with the mind. The player is shown using this to lift enemies into the air, and at one point completely eviscerating a struggling individual. This is an affront to God because it’s the one ability He has which we lack. Only God can make things happen by thinking it. Only God has the ability to shape the world by a wave of the hand. This is God’s world, not ours, and we offend Him by claiming it as such. Another ability available to players is the option to possess vagrant soldiers. Unbelievably, to win some levels, you must take the role of a demon and steal souls. It says right in the video: he who owns the most souls is declared a king. Proverbs 1:33 But whoso hearkeneth unto me shall dwell safely, and shall be quiet from fear of evil. The rest of the game shamefully distorts the world around the player. It employs impossibilities, such as following someone into a room only to find it empty, objects moving with no interaction, and people appearing right before your eyes. These sort of things do not exist in God’s world. To insert uncertainties into reality is to inject doubt of the existence of God. Any rational man who views the world he lives in with clarity knows in his heart that a divine creator is responsible. However, should a man look at a wall and see the graffiti move before his eyes, he may begin to question the love and omnipotence of our lord. This is what Fear 3 offers to scare the players. When I say that God Hates Video Games, does He hate it when people pretend to have His power over matter? Does He hate those who wish to own the souls of others? Does He hate those who want to warp the reality God has so mercifully granted us? Our souls to not belong to us; they belong to God. If a gamer who plays Fear 3 wants to take another gamer’s soul, he is not stealing just from the person, but from God, Himself. To God, our soul is who we are: He sees through the flesh as if it were wet tissue paper. The question we must consider is this: if a gamer who plays Fear 3 in attempt to become the “Soul King,” to whom does his own soul belong? The iron word of God cannot be undermined by Pokemon |
