Saints Row: The Third I seem to wallow in deeper and deeper disbelief with each game that I study. It’s been a mistake so far to conclude that each game I’ve looked at is the most violent or most sexually crude game in existence. Still, I find myself looking at a game so repulsive that I can’t fathom anything more unholy and unrighteous. The title alone is a mockery of God, as the characters are referred to as Saints. When Paul the Apostle (otherwise known as Saint Paul) transcribed the Word of God in what is 1 Corinthians, he revealed that true Saints are those sanctified in Jesus Christ. What then, would we expect to find in a saint? In Saints Row: The Third, saints are synonymous with criminals. Rather, it’s not saints that are referred to as criminals, but criminals which are referred to as saints. The saints in this game combine the worst from Skryim (assaulting women) and the worst from Duke Nukem (obscene sexual references) and the worst of delinquent youths in every city. These actions are condemned by God and Jesus repeatedly. Jesus loves all men, but He wouldn’t feel at home in the hearts of drug dealers and gangsters, or vice versa. The first requisite of accepting Jesus is to purge from your soul all anger and hate. The body should be clean and never corrupted by harmful chemicals and drugs. A Christian must be humble. Jesus can’t help somebody who is too concerned with their pride and fame to help others. The “Saints” must be named ironically because they actually represent everything that one would find in a sinner. Here’s an official demonstration of the game: Galatians 6:7 Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. It’s the phrasing and wording used in the video that I find most revealing. Destroying city property is outright called hilarious. Vandalism costs taxpayers billions of dollars each year. Giving Saints Row the benefit of the doubt, please stop and consider what just one billion dollars could do. The average income last year was roughly $45,000. This wealth could provide the salary of over 22,000 people. The Bible teaches us to have great sympathy for the poor and needy, but we as a country cannot provide for these people because of the actions of a small percentage. These criminals that destroy the property of others are not saintly. The numbers rise exponentially when we try but fail to calculate in the massive amounts of cash spent on matters like drug issues, health care of those harmed, and all the other costs of irresponsible crimes these so-called saints indulge in. How can someone be a saint when they are contributing to the downfall of America? How can someone be a saint when their actions force countless into poverty? The game world is also directly referred to as a city of sin. The creators claim they want to give players the choice to do whatever they want. However, it’s obvious that the only options available are attacking people, engaging prostitutes, and blowing things up. It’s shameful. If players can do whatever they choose, why can they only cause destruction? Nowhere is a player shown attempting to resuscitate an injured citizen, perhaps resulting from someone else’s fatal driving. Nowhere do players have the choice to organize community service to perhaps fight growing vandalism and drug use. Nowhere do the players have the choice or pleasure of doing anything that could be considered saintly. No, the city of Saints Row is not a world of free choice; it’s a world of no choice, where the only option is Hell. Saints Row is a city of sin in every respect. It is a backwards world where evil is good. It’s a world where people only want to hurt you, take your things, and speed away to their next juvenile thrill. Would you want to live in a world where no one has any regard for the consequences of their actions? That is the world of Saints Row. When I say that God Hates Video Games, do I mean that He hates those that parade around backwards parodies of His strongest virtues? The truth is that every action has a consequence. When we make choices that are selfish and detrimental to the very world we live in, our actions are written – with indelible ink – in God’s books that He keeps about us. Each page holds a million words and every year of our lives becomes a new chapter. In mortal life, we may not see a true consequence for the innumerable choices we make, but in the afterlife, we are judged, and God will punish those He sees unworthy. Every Christian knows the punishment for murder, adultery, and theft in the real world. What is the punishment for committing these sins in a video game? Is sinning in a make believe world okay? One cannot deny that there are indeed consequences for everything. It’s God’s law and a fact of the universe. What every Christian should be asking themselves is: What is the consequence of playing this video game? There's more violence to be seen in Mortal Kombat |
